After School Art

This weekly series offered school-age youth on the West Side of Kaua‘i free after school art activities every Monday and Wednesday at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center. The program was the only one of its kind in Kekaha and was open to the public. The workshops were held from 1-3 p.m. We are grateful to the Atherton Family Foundation and the Knudsen Trust for their generous donations which made these workshops possible.

Creating Our World

This workshop series, held weekly at Lihue Court Townhomes since 2003, focused on using creative art processes to help youth set and work toward individual and group goals. The program included visits from artists and teachers from community groups around the island and special field trips, art shows, and community service projects.

E Malama Kou Kino: A Day of Caring for Mind, Body, and Soul (ongoing)

Circles of Light offers an ongoing series of retreat days for adults that include massage, art, yoga, healthy cooking, and use of a pool. Income from this program supports the organization's projects for youth and families. Staff and Board are grateful for the volunteer massage therapists, art/yoga instructors, entertainers, and chefs who make these events a success, and to those who offer their homes as host sites.

Eastside Family Summit (annual)

Circles of Light offered sand painting of ancient Hawai‘ian petroglyphs to children and youth attending this family support day at Kapa‘a High School. The event featured presentations and special events by many community-based organizations serving youth and families.

Hale Kipa Family Days

In March, Circles of Light was a partner in this event offered by Hale Kipa, a non-profit organization which offers supportive services to families. Circles of Light provided opportunities for youth and their family members to participate in cultural art projects.

Kaua‘ian Days

Circles of Light is an ongoing participant in this island-wide event held each January. This year Circles of Light offered an art show at the Civic Center displaying creative works made by youth in Lihue and Kekaha. Staff and Board members also participated in the annual parade.
